Hurford Rd. Presentations
Privates R. G. Spence and F. Christmas were guests of honour at a social evening at Hurford Road. Euchre prizewinners were Mr. B. Spence and Mrs. J. Lynch. On behalf of the Omata patriotic committee, Mr. A. Bayly presented the soldiers with suede holdalis, and on behalf of the Hurford women's patriotic social club, Mr. T. L. Walsh presented Private Christmas with a (tift, and handed a cheque to Private G. Spence, who was born on the Hurford Road and who is the first locally born man to be called for service. Supper was served by the women's patriotic committee. Mr. and Mrs. R. Spence gave a party in honour of the 21st birthday of their son, Private G. Spence. Toasts were proposcd by Mr. T. L. Walsh and Mr. J. Thomas. Mr. Thomas referred to the work Mr. and Mrs. Spence had done in patriotic matters. and for the district generally.
