Hospital Comforts Needed
An indication that hospital comforts would be needed urgently, especially pyjamas and handkerchiefs, was given to a committee meeting of the Waitara Red Cross Society by the secretary, Mrs. F. C. Chapman, who attended the annual conference of the Red Cross Society at Wellington as delegate. The secretary was given authority to purchase material for pyjamas. Articles made from fleeces included pullovers, soeks, scarfs, caps, bedsocks and mittens. all spun and hand-knitted by members of the Red Cross spinning circle, of which Mrs. J. Brough is convener. In response to a Girl Guide request for co-operation in a Dominion collection of waste cotton materials suitaBle for the army and air force, it was decided that the Red Cross rooms be a receiving depot for the materials. The resignation of Mrs. M. Leslie, who is leaving Waitara, was accepted. Prizes for euchre parties were given by Mrs. A. L. Fowler and Mrs. E. A. George. It was decided to have hospital equipment stored for an emergency again sterilised. Mrs. E. A. George presided. R.S.A. Meeting. The questnon of boredom of troops in camp and lack of such organised and energetic training as is necessary to model youths of 19 and 20 as useful and industrious citizens in after life, was discussed at a meeting of the Waitara R.S.A. It was resolved that the Dominion executive be asked to investigate the training system and, in doing so, to take the views of the ranks as well as those of senior officers. Mr. I. Prichard presided. Card Parties. At a euchre party organised by the Waitara Swimming Club in aid of funds for the patriotic society's parcels, prizewinners were : Mrs. Lambert 1, Mrs. Turner jnr. 2 ; Mrs. L. Andrews points prize. Prizewinners at a euchre party organised by the Waitara Red Cross Society were : Mrs. D. Greenlees 1, Mrs. L. Hoskins 2 : Mrs. R. Greenlees consolation ; Mrs. Kettle 1, Mt. Haggerty 2. Mrs. C. W. Smart, Te Aroha, is the guest Df her sister, Mrs. J. Wetton, Waitoitoi. Mrs. Smart has also been visiting South Taranaki, where she lived for many years.
