Messrs. A. J. Fitzherbert and J. McGill, Auckland, are visiting New Plymouth and staying at the Hotel Imperial. Lieutenant C. J. Harris, who was prominently associated with the Farmers' Uni&n in North Taranaki, is spending a holiday at New Plymouth. Major Yerex and Captain R. H. Perrett, N.Z.S.C., Central Military District headquarters, arrived at New Plymouth last night. They will spend about two days in the district to inspect territorial troops and Home Guardsmen in the area. Lieutenant-Colonel G. J. McNaught, who is shortly to arrive at New Plymouth to take over duties as principal of the New Plymouth Boys' High School, was farewelled by the Parents' Association of the Hutt Valley High School and the Old Pupils' Association. LieutenantColonel McNaught was a foundation member of the staff of the high school, which was founded in 1926. A desk was presented to him on behalf of the associations. i «!i The death has occurred of the Rev. A. B. Chapell, M.A., in his 70th year, who was formerly a Wesleyan minister, Registrar of the Auckland University and also on the editprial staff of the New Zealand Herald, from which he retired last year, says an Auckland Press Association message. In his time he was actively associated with many educational and young people's movements. Mr. Chapell was for some years minister in charge of the Whiteley Memorial Circuit, New Plymouth, and was also a member of the Taranaki Education Board. Mr. J. P. McMahon-Box, who has been appointed resident commissioner of Niue, Judge of the High Court of the Cook Islands and collector of Customs and postmaster at Niue, was well known at New Plymouth. He was a son of the late Mrs. M. Box, Mokau, and was an old boy of the New Plymouth Boys' High School. He was a member of the Customs staff at New Plymouth, and was prominent in football circles, gaining B representation honours as fullback.
