Prospect To-morrow
Cavalryman, one of the favourltes for the August Handicap, principal event at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting at Alexandra Park to-morrow, was responsible for a Yery impresslve trial 'at Epsom on Tuesday and as a result his popularity is sure to be enhaneed. Working with Hillcrest (C. M. Morrison) and Munga Tangi (L. McMahon), the N'obleman gelding was restrained by lan Morrison over the first mile, which was covered in 2.40, but he was allowed to run past the leaders in the next quarter and he was travelling very nicely in front as he completed the final half-mile, 44ft. from the rails, in 1.10 — easily the best of the morning. The track was holding. At the last meeting at Epsom a few weeks ago Cavalryman was a very warm favourite for the two miles handicap, but he was interfered with in thc running and thus let his supporters down by finishing only third behind Isabella Pointer and Princess Linnett. On recent traek work he must be given a great chance to make amends to-morrow.
