Japan Lands More Troops In New Guinea

Heavy Allied attacks made I on force off Milne Bay. I London, Aug. 27. | The south-eastern corner of New Guinea has become a new battleground with the landing of a Japanese force in Milne Bay from a small convoy during the night. This is announced in to-day's communique from General MacArthur's headquarters in Australia. Milne Bay is more than 200 miles from Port Moresby. The landing was anticipated and Allied troops have already been in contact with the invader. Allied aircraft battered the Japanese both before and during the landing. One transport was sunk,- a cruiser was damaged and probably sunk and a destroyer was damaged. One Allied plane was lost. During the landing Allied bombers attacked landing barges and troops.
