Early Collapse Of Enemy Defence Of Chuhsien Forecast
Rec. 11.20 p.m. Chungking, Aug. 27. The China Central News declares the Japanese have set fire to Chuhsien, indicating that the collapse of the Japanese defence is imminent. The Chinese are making a concerted attack on the walls of Chuhsien, where there is a most important airfield, states a Chinese communique. The Chinese have already captured several strategic points around Chuhsien. The Chinese section of the Chekiang-Kiangsi railway is now 165 miles. Continuing their victorious march in Chekiang province, the Chinese armies are preparing to storm Nanchang, in Kiangsi, reports the China Central News. The Chinese have recaptured Tungsiang, a railroad centre 50 miles south-east of Nanchang. This is the eleventh important point in the eastern theatre regained within the week's fighting. The Japanese with strong aerial support launched an attack in the areas along the Tungpu railway just south of the Yellow River in Honan province. It is revealed that an American air raid on Yochow on August 11 lasted 12 hours, killed nearly 500 Japanese and caused fires in enemy barracks. The enemy are constructing air raid shelters in many parts of Hunan province.
