Presentations at Midhirst

There was a large attendance at a socia) evening tendered to Privates N. Askew, L Faull, E. F. Foreman, J. L. Hunt, J. and W. Jones, and R. Vesty in the Midhirst hall. Mr. C. C. Phillips, chairman of the soldiers' welfare committee, called on Mr J. W. Morrison to present each soldier with a cheque from residents. Mr. Fhillips, on behalf of the women's committee, presented each soldier with a gift parcel, and with a parcel of handkerchiefs from the Midhirst W.D.F.U. Mr. M. Davis presented Privates Askew and Hunt with a fountain pen and propelling pencil each, from friends on Radnor Road, A gift of a hold-all each from fellow members of the Young Farmers* Club was made to Privates Askew, Hunt and Vesty by Mr. J. E. Schumacher, club president, who said that Private Hunt was responsible for the formation of the Midhirst Young Farmers' Club. Dance music was played by Mr. H. Humphries, with an extra by Mr. S. Carter. Songs were sung by Misses I. Andersen and A. Lepper and Mr. C. Hamblyn. Mrs. H. L. Downs was accompanist. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mrs. Perrett and partner. Bouquets were presented by Mrs. Haddon Smith to Mesdames A. R. Askew. W. B. Foreman, A. Faull, J. B. Hunt, S. Ludlam and W. Vesty from the women's committee. Mr. D. Tempero was master of ceremonies.
