Death of Eltham Pioneer
The death of an Eltham pioneer, Mrs. Elizabeth Jenkins, occurred at Te Namu Road, Opunake, on Sunday. Mrs. Jenkins, who was 88 years of aye, was the last survivinp child of Mr. T. Drake, Johnsonville. Wellinpton, who travelled to New Zealand in the Aurora in 1840. She married the late Mr. William Naylor Jenkins, Eltham, all her married life beinp spent in that district. her father having farming interests at Stuart Road, Matemateonga, and Rawhitiroa. MrsJenkins knew Eltham when it consisted of a- sawmill and little inn called "the Sawmillers' Arms," on the Mangawhero r.tream. Since the death of her husband she has lived with her daughter. Mrs. L. D. Chambers, Opunake. Mr. W. P. D. Jenkins, Eltham, is a son. Another son, Mr. W. F. V. Jenkins, died in the 1918 epidemic. There are 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
