"I consider the balance sheet the best you have ever had," said the auditor, Mr. H. A. Lennon, at the annual meeting of shareholders of the Awatuna Co-operative Dairy Factory Co. Ltd. at Te Kiri on Tuesday night. An improvement in the company's financial position of £2971 and an estimated payment of 17.88d a pound butterfat were reported. The advance to suppliers in the season was 16.985d a pound butterfat, said the report. The sum of £1000, or .177d a pound butterfat, was appropriated and placed to reserve. The baiance in the appropriation account of £10,698 6s 6d, or 1.895d a pound butterfat, was recommended for distribution. The directors resoived that no interest be paid on ehare capital. Statistics, with last year's in parentheses, included: Suppliers 97 (93) ; milk, 30,354,2711b. (31,952,4981b.) ; test, 4.455 (4.457) ; cream, 53544,lb. A successful season's operations were reviewed by the chairman, Mr. E. A. Collins. Labour problems became acute in the season, but the gwing back to butter might ease the position. At the moment, however, the company was short-staffed and most other companies were in the same position. Climatic conditions upset calculations for inereased cheese production, but the country had reached within 9000, tons of the goal of, 160,000 tons. This was a remarkable perforraance and showed what the farmers could, and would, do. Cheese premiums earned the company £570 18s 4d. The retiring directors, Messrs. E. A. Collins and A. M. Barker, were re-elected, and Mr. J. M. Hickey was elected to fill the vacaney caused by the death of Mr. F. Tindill. Mr. Lennon was re-appointed auditor.
