A.O.F. Meeting at Eltham
A clear definition and ruling regarding the payment of sick pay allowance to returned invalided soldiers was requested by Bro. R. E. J. Kivell, as a lodge secretary, at the half-yearly meeting of the Ancient Order of Foresters at Eltham. The following motion was passed: That all returned overseas members of the arrned services, directly on receiving their discharge, become liable for contributions and entitled to all benefits of the order. Funds of the courts, it was stated, were accumulating in spite of increased expenditure in sickness and funeral claims. The increase in funds amounted to £2720 14s lld. Payments from the benevolent fund were: Contributions of distressed members £9 14s 7d, donations £1 ls, payments to the courts for members on active service £173 7s lld. Funeral allowances increased by £235 2s for the past year. The following nominations for district officers were: D.C.R., Bro. L. C. Harrison; D.S.C.R., Bro. J. L. Sleep; D.W., Bro. C. H. Whittington; D.B., Bro. Steffenson. j The D.C.R. Bro. C. W. Green (in army uniform) was welcomed. The total value of the district and courts, as at December 31, 1941, amounted to £98,604, an increase of £2720 on the past year, it was stated. There was a decrease of £274 in sick pay over the past year. which was considered satisfactory. Courts were able to make a reduction in contributions payable by members because social security and medical benefits were now in full force.
