Eight Years Old Child Wins Hawera Piano Solo Award

Adjudged the player tVith the most promise for future success, Miss Margaret Neilson, Hawera, aged eight years, was awarded the Daisy Reilly memorial scholarship at Hawera last night when the three-day festival of music, elocution and dancing of the Hawera Competitions Society was concluded. The scholarship is awarded to the most promising competitor in the piano solo classes under 18 years, the judge, Mr. S. Oliver, remarking on the promise and ability displayed by the winner. The chairman of the society committee, Mr. F. W. Horner, expressed regret at the small number of entries in the elocution classes, caused mainly, he said, by the lack of elocution teachers at Hawera.
