Progress of W.W.S.A. Reported at N.P. Meeting

At the monthly meeting of the New Plymouth district committee of the W.W.S.A. Mrs. G. S. Millar, who presided, welcomed Mrs. D. M. Findlay, acting honorary secretary. Mrs. Millar referred to subjects discussed with the Director of National Service on her recent visit to Wellington. Miss Malempre, Dominion secretary of the W.W.S.A., approved the appointment of Mrs. J. McAlley. Mokau, as recruiting officer for the W.W.S.A. in that district, she said. Mrs. Patrick was appointed convenor of the gardening section, a position previously held by the chairman. Mrs. Clifford-Jones reported upon the satisfactory work of the canteen section. Mrs. McPhillips (land army) stated that Mr. Neal offered to instruct girls in classes to be organised at New Plymouth under the W.W.S.A., in the practical aspects of farm work. Mrs. Curtis (transport) reported that all members obtained first aid certificates. Ten resuscitation and seven mechanics' certificates were awarded. Mrs. White, signalling section, reported a roll of 36, three classes being held each week under the instruction of Mr. Cahill. Instructional talks wefe given by Sergeant V. Parkinson, divisional signals. who has returned from the Middle East. Applications for the armed forces continued steadily, reported Mrs. W. J. Smith, Inglewood. Mrs. Williams, Waitara, reported on the advance made by the signalling group. A dance, organised by combined sections, resulted in substantial additions to the funds. Miss M. Papps. interviewing officer of the W.W.S.A.. reported upon a recent conference called by Mr. F. H. Muirhead at Stratford, and outlined plans for the calling up of the 20-21 group when deemed necessary.
