The company had to expend nearly £2500 last season in alterations and in providing additiona] plant to cope with Ihe change from hutter to cheese, after having transferred half its suppliers to the N'ortli Taranaki company the previous year, said tlie chairman. The whole costs oi' ihe company were met by the suppliers who supplied Tikorangi factory during the season. The costs therefore were high, and there was every possibility of ol)taining compensation above the Marketing Department's basic costs of 3.5d. and that would enable a further payment to he made. Tlie yield was low, partly because raw milk was haudled. said the chairman, who pointcd out that it would have eost £1500 lo install a pasteuriser, which in any case could not have been procured. It was found that sonie suppliers early in tlie season were skimming a small part of the milk and adding tlie cream to the milk sent to Ihe factory, atl'ccting the yield. That piactiec. which resulted in prosecutions in Wai ra ra pa. stoppml as soon as he s|ioke to Ihe suppliers. The absence of Ihe man- J ager through ill-health until Fehruary, and lahour troiildrs also alfecled the yield. Tlie (lovernriient had intimaled that | dairy companies one year aflri' tlie war would he reconiponsed for tlie value of ihe
redundant plant, less 74 per cent. deprcciation annuully, but with 4 per cent. intercst 011 the cost the expense to the company would he heavy if the war lasted many years, said Mr.' Foreman. It was proposed to use some of the new cheese vats as casein vats lieeause It would cost £90 to install wooden vats. The retiring directors, Messrs. J. H. Paulger and A. J. Foreman, were rc-elccted unopposed. Mi*. A. J. Tunhridge was reappointed auditor. The _chairman was voted an honoraiium of £75, and the di-rectoi-s' fccs v'cre. fixcd at the same as last year. Mr. Foreman was rc-elected chairman of directors.
