Mass Production Of 500 Cargo Planes By U.S. Builders

Rec. 1.30 p.m. San Francisco, Aug. 24. Mr. Henry J. Kaiser. West Coast shipbuilder, announced that he had teamed up with Mr. Howard Hughes, millionaire aeroplane designer and movie producer, to build 500 cargo planes. After several days of conferences the men agreed to carry out on a joint basis "the most ambitious aviation programme the world has ever known." Mr. Kaiser recently explained to Washington officials his plan for massproducing cargo planes to beat the Axis submarine menace. Mr. Kaiser aroused widespread public interest but encountered some opposition on the ground that materials were unavailable at present.
