Australian Interest In Air Chiefs' Visit to America
Special Australian Correspondent.
Rec. 9.45 p.m. Sydney, Aug. 24. Significance is attached here to the arrival in America of Major-General . George H. Brett, chief of the Allied air forces in the Pacific, and Air Commodore R. V. Goddard, chief of staff o£ . the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Al- ! lied land-based aircraft are admitted to have played a vital role in the early stages of the Solomons offensive and it is hoped that the joint consultations between the American authorities and the two South-west Pacific air chiefs may result in an accentuated air offensive in this theatre. General Brett's arrival was a closelykept secret until he landed at Miami, Florida, to address a graduating class of the Army Air Force technical training command. General Brett declined to discuss his plans or say when he is returning to Australia, says a New York message.
