Co-operation of Children In Potato Growing Urged

The co-operation of boys and girls' agricultural clubs with the Primary Production Council to increase production, particularly in the growing of potatoes, is sought by Mr. J. W. Connell, senior instructor to the Taranaki Education Board. is It was generally recognised that boys and girls' club work had, after many years of solid and constructive building, reached a high standard, and now was the time to prqve it, said a circular forwarded by Mr. Connell to,:all school committee and head teachers.. In some cases suitable areas were to be foUnd in the school grounds and in many townships there were vacant sections that could be used. The grouping I of plots in areas of a quarter to one i acre had many advantpges. It was felt that each child could maintain an area of 1-80 acre (11 x 5| yards) which is the standard field plot. Where a reasonably large area was available it was recommended that instead of individual plots each child should be given one row. It was hoped that planting would be done between the middle and end .of September. As soon as the board was informed of the clubs' requirements the necessary seed and manure would be distributed.
