N.Z. Airman's Initiative Wins Award of D.F.M.

The Distinguished Flying Medal has been awarded to Pilot Officer (formerly Flight-Sergeant) Raymond Albert Peters. Royal New Zealand Air Force, according to official advice received at air headquarters, Wellington. Pilot Officer Peters was born at Wanganui in May, 1920, and was educated at the Palmerston North High School. He apppied for enlistment in the Royal New Zealand Air Force within a month of the outbreak of war. "His father is Mr. A. Peters, Linton. "Pilot Officer Peters has always displayed great energy and initiative," says the citation. "In attacks on shipping he has sunk a merchant ship and an E-boat at night, as well as destroyed one, and probably two, other enemy aircraft."
