Home and School Have Big Influence On Young Citizens

The mode of living of many young people to-day was causing grave concern. to members of Parliament and leaders of education, Mr. A. S. Eggleton, chairman of the Vogeltown school committee, stated on Saturday in stressing the influence of the home and the school in developing the character of the future citizens of the country. That, he said, was one of the reasons why in every district there should always be the closest co-operation between parents, school committee and teachers. Head Teacher's Influence. Mr. Eggleton agreed that the influence of a good head teacher was beyond measure. Where a district had confidence that the head teacher of its school had depth of character and strength of purpose, as had been the case at Vogeltown, parents could be assured that the children would become good citizens, helpful to their fellowmen and to their country, and that they would rise above the artificial conditions that existed to-day. He thought, too, that home life was responsible for muoh of to-day 's artificiality, for it would be found that in homes where the par[ents' depth of character was stamped on jthe children the children developed into good citizens. The need for close cooperation between the home and the school could not be too greatly emphasised, Mr. Eggleton added.
