County Council Stresses Importance of W.D.F.U.

Representation of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union on the Stratford borough and county . Emergency Precautions Scheme was under consideration by the county council yesterday when it received a letter from the borough council concurring with the suggestion that one member of the W.D.F.U. should be on the executive with one from the Women's War Service Auxiljary, instead of two from the W.W.S.A. The borough council was under the impression that the W.D.F.U. was seek, ing representation on the E.P.S. executive, said Cr. B. Hutchen. That was not correct, because the council was seeking it. The W.D.F.U. had made no move for it, but the council thought it should be represented. "The people have no idea how strong the organisation is," Cr. Hutchen added. "People think it is a farmers' wives tea party. but it is not." The E.P.S. would benefit by having the W.D.F.U. represented, said the chairman, Mr. J. C. Best. In every area the women were helping the E.P.S. The E.P.S. was a peace-time organisation and would be going after the war was over, said Cr. Hutchen. The W.D.F.U. would be meeting every month when the W.W.S.A. had been forgotten. The borough's reply agreeing to the county suggestion of representation was received.
