Comrades Attend Funeral Of Lt.-Col. F. E. Beamish
The funeral of Lieutenant-Colonel F. E. Beamish took place at the Patea cemetery yesterday, the Rev. W. H. Walton officiating at the church and the graveside, and Mrs. A. A. Carey playing the organ. The pall-bearers were comrades of the South African War and included Messrs. F. J. Armstrong, C. O. Josephson, J. Phillips, J. MacEwan, W. Morrison, G. E. Taylor, C. A. Edwards, D. Campbell, C. Hilliar and J. Rockett (Roberts' Horse), and the casket was draped with the New Zealand ensign. A firing party from soldiers under Lieutenant Carnell attended and fired the customary volley at the graveside, the Last Post being sounded by Mr. C. H, Carey. Members of the Patea R.S.A. attended, and their brief service was read by Mr. G. W. Francis. As the cortege passed the school the pupils stood on each side of the road as a mark of respect to Lieut.-Colonel Beamish, who was an old pupil of the school and whose sister, Miss M. Beamish, is infant mistress at the school.
