Wooden Warships Play Big Part In Attacking Convoys

Well-armed ships attack Axis vessels.
Rec. 9.10 p.m. , Rugby, Aug. 19. The "wooden walls" made famous by Nelson and other British seamen are again playing their part in the prptection of the British Isles. The modern wooden vessels which form the coastal forces for harassing enemy convoys as they try to pass along the European coast by night include motor torpedo - boats, gunboats and launches varying.in length from 55 to 150 feet. Someare flattlsh bottomed of speedboat design and others are in the conventional form. All are built to stay at sea in any weather. They carry torped,oes, depth. charges and mines and are armed with guns to attack enemy vessels of their own class. Practically all the officers and men are engaged for the period of the war only but they are keen and specially trained for the work.
