U.S. Labour Stoppage Affects Plane Output
Rec. 6.30 p.m. Washington, Aug. 19. A Cleveland message says tliat work at 11 Reynolds Metals Company plants, I which make aluminium aeroplane parts, I has been slowed up by labour stoppage. | The president of the company said the stoppage was causing a loss to the nation I equivalent to one medium bomber an j hour although all of the plants were operating to some extent. He added that the stoppage was evidently caused by the • dismissal of the Congress of Industrial j Organisation's Union plant chairman, j and the C.I.O. leaders called the stop- j page a lock-out, while the American j Federation of Labour . officials termed j the trouble cold sabotage of the war effort by the C.I.O. A C.I.O. spokesman j reported that 2000 men were already out, with more joining them constantly.
