A "Full-Dress" Big Bottle Drive
In a war effort that is leaving no possible stone unturned. Inglewood is exploiting every conceivable means of raising money for patriotic purposes. Recently the district yielded its store of long emptied bottles of all description in a not so spectacular, but nevertbeless practical effort for the Empire's cause. Literally, thousands of bottles were gleaned from home and shops in the district. School children were in many cases responsible for the fine collection made. Hundreds of dozens of bottles were collected. and when sold realised about £20. All types of bottles were gathered. some of the short, "dumpy" base type with long necks. "square-riggers," crown "toppers," cork top bottles, medicine bottles and many other makes. Hundreds of proprietary bottles with imprinted sides presented a problem for the committee. but were disposed of through the right channels. When a Daily News reporter was at Inglewood recently a very large collection of medicine bottles still remained to be disposed of. The collection was made on a voluntary basis bjr an Inglewood resident who gathered them up and sorted the bottles in his spare time. Even the patriotic committee was staggered at the vast number of bottles which must have stood for many months on the shelves and in the wash-houses of the district.
