HIGHER MACHINERY STANDARD
BOON TO SHEEP SHEARERS. During the past few years, New Zealand's advance in industrial progress, has been phenomenal. Goods which hitherto have been imported are now being manufactured in the Dominion with a greal deal of success, and contrary to the public's general opinion regarding locally manufactured articles, time has proven that New Zealand can produce goods which are highly comparable with the standard set by other countries.
lo take a particular case, let us glance at the sheep shearing industry. One of the most well known, and oldest established firms manufacturing sheep shearing machines is the "New Kiwi" Sheep Shearing Machine Co. Ltd., of Auckland, who have for many years specialised in the development of shearing machine manufacture. Probably the most popular of the New Kiwi machines is the Standard model, designed for shearing sheds of every capacity. Prominent among the many features which these machines incorporate is the patented cam clutch, specially designed for instantaneous pick-up, smooth and easily operated in and out gearing. All overhead brackets are soundly assembled and all drive bearings consist of 14 inch self-aligning British ball-bearing Plummer Blocks.
For cases where a single unit plant is adequate there is the Kiwi Electric machine. This model requires very little erection and has the advantage of saving on any intermediate shafting. A single-ended grinder can be conveniently fitted to this outfit driven from the friction wheel within easy reach for the grinder. The Kiwi Midget is another excellent little plant for farmers with smaller flocks. This model may be assembled or dismantled at will, without any trouble. and can be drivcn by any source of pOwer. The Kiwi Two Stand portable machine is an ideal shearing plant for those who have no permanent shearing facilities. The "Portable" is entirely self-contain-ed having its power plant mounted on its bed and double ended grindei"s fitted to the frame. The distance between stands allows for full shearing distance and ample room for straight-for-ward handling. The New Kiwi Sheep Shearing Co. have directed their energies to the perfection of machines that are simpler and more positive in action; they are accomplishing what people dreamed of in yesteryear; they are producing goods that are equal, if not better, than thoso of overseas make. The distributing agents in New Zealand for the "New Kiwi" sheep shearing machines is M. J. Hooper and Co Ltd., Federal Street, Auckland, who are also agents for the Burgon and Ball hand-sheer for degging and crutching and secateurs for foot-rot, completin'g a Full range of shearing requisites. This firm invites any persons interested to inapect their factory or send for frce catalogues and full details of these reliable 'New Kiwi" Machines.*
