st. andrew's «how L. LEWIS' CHAMPIONSHIP

L. Lewis, Eltham, was outstandingly successful at St. Andrew's (Inglewood) 21st annual spring flower show and sale of work yesterday, when he won the Taranaki Horticultural Association s open daffodil championship and also showed the champion daffodil, a magnificent. white coloured Lecasii Slemish. He also took the Maetzig challenge cup (12 varieties), Maetzig trophy (18 varieties) and single blooms (Hammonds trophy). The show was an outstanding success, the entries in all the sections showing a considerable increase, in some cases double those of last year, particularly m decorative and home industries sections. "ITie hall presented a gay scene, the blooms being well displayed. The daffo- j dils made a fine display, as did the cut flowers. The judge, Mr. G. Jones, commented on the magnificent display of polyanthus and stock and there were some beautiful pansies. Some of the blooms showed the effect of the weather. The decorative section on the stage attracted considerable attention. A striking display of pot plants, in which there were some fine tulips and primulas, was exhibited by Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Bennett, Dudley Road. Community Spirit. The show represented not only the work of members of the church, but also the healthy co-operation of all sections of the community which was sucn a feature of Inglewood life, remarked the vicar, the Rev. E. Chard, in expressing appreciation of the manner in which the show had been supported at a time when there were so many other calls. Inglewood, he said. possessed a splendid community spirit. He expressed regret at the unavoidable absence ot Archdeacon Evans and Mrs. Evans, Archdeacon Gavin and Mrs. M. A. iEvans, secretary of the show *0* years. He welcomed Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Skinner and Mr. and Mrs. E. W. M. Lysons, remarking that Mr. Skinner had helped to survey the township when its site was bush. Mr. Chard expressed appreciation of the work of the judges, stewards, officials and members of the guild. , Congratulations to all concerned on the excellence of the show were extended by Mr. Skinner.
