NORTHERN TRIALS

HORSES FOR PAEROA SEMI-FINAL GALLOPS

Horses with engagements at the Ohinemuri Jockey Club's meeting which will open on Saturday had their semi-final gallops on northern tracks on Tuesday, states the Auckland Star. Conditions were ideal for galloping at Ellerslie and the going on No. 2 grass track, whach was open for fast work, was good. Some smart sprints were recorded. Natal, Lady Acushla, Water Hound, Bronzo and Landveyor put up the best efforts over three furlongs, Biddy Girl, Llandaff and Acre's Beauty over four, and Odtaa over six. Natal (Tremain) went nicely while running three furlongs in 38 2-5s, Lady Acushla and Water Hound ftnishing in front of No Caste in the same time. Bronzo (Poad) and Landveyor (McTavish) took 38 3-5s, ftnishing together. Biddy Girl hit out nicely while running half a mile in 49 2-5s, which was the best of the morning over the distance. Ldandaff (Messervy) recording 49 3-5s. Acre's Beauty (Messervy) jumped away in front to lead Boumemouth. (Cammick) and Fiying Jay (Thomson) over the same ground in 49 3-5s, the lastnamed getting all the worst of the start. Hinehau (Vaughan) took 49 4-5s, while Phil Vaals (Gilchrist) ran from the seven to the three-furlong post in the same time. Odtaa Goes Well. Odtaa (Gilchrist) covered six furlongs in lm 17 4-5s. He was assisted over the first two by Den Pasa (Messervy) in 24 1-5s. The latter, who is a novice by Vaals, showed promising speed. Other gallops were:— Three furlongs: Golden Pay (Gilchrist) 40 2-5s, Marchy (Thomson) 42 l-5s, Topette (Tremain) 39s. Four furlongs: Final (Williams) 53s, Landsman (Vaughan) and Elise (Coon) 52 2-5s, Tybalt (Pell) 51 2-5s, Carot 53 2 -5s, Bronze Emerald (Messervy) and Mia Regina (Markwick) 50s, Dublin Show l (Vaughan) and Master Warden (light boy) 51 2-5s, Goldrace (Vaughan) and Rue de Paix (Cameron) 56s. Five furlongs: Mahala (Williams) and Miss Valerie (Vaughan) lm 6 3-5s, Softly (Tremain) lm 8s, Boompsadaisy (Vaughan) lm 5s. Six furlongs: Bronze Fire lm 27 2-5s, Poland lm 19 4-5s, Valmint (J. Bagby) lm 20s, Sebrof lm 20 3-5s, Golden Bonnet lm 28 3-5s. , Round: Clinch (Cameron) and Stratford (Vaughan) lm 56s, the last half-mile in 53 2-5s. Both went well. The Jumpers. Boy Lu (Coon) and Loyal Grant (Gemmell) gave a good display over four hurdles. Pleuron showed promise while jumpmg two pony hurdles. • Digger Jim (Coon) jumped two hurdles twice in good style. Ringshot (Ritchie) and Inyatis (Gemmell) jumped four hurdles nicely. Leighton Buzzard (Ritchie) and Te Ronga (Neil) were schooled over the big fences on the flat, Te Ronga showing to most advantage, though Leighton Buzzard went well. At Takanini. With the track conditions at Takanini greatly improved, there was some interesting work on the middle grass, on vhich the poles were 20 feet out. Some smart efforts were recorded, the best being those of Sir Lysander, Lovaals, River Plate, Queen City, Glen Connell, Grandora, Orelio and Arvakur. The best of the morning over five furlongs was that by Lovaals (Spinley), who hit out stylishly to complete her task in lm 4s. Orelio (Smith) was always travelling better . than Arvakur # (Jackson) over the same ground in lm 4 2-5s. ^ Orelio worked attractively. Glen Connell'' (Cleaver) completed his task over a simi- - lar distance in lm 4 3-5s, doing his work well. Sir Lysander (Parsons) showed frne dash over half a mile in 51s, a task which Grandora (Cleaver) completed in 51 2-5s without being unduly bustled. The two-year-old, River Plate (Brown), pleased while running half a mile with Heroic Star (Coker) in 51 3-5s, Gaymiss (Parsons) running the last four of five furlongs in 52 3-5s. Lady Pay (Parsons) worked well to complete her task in 52s. Queen City (Inglis) pulled up well after running three furlongs in 37 4-5s. She I has to all appearances made a quick recovery from her recent injury. Borak (McMinn) was just in front of Nettarion (Jackson) at the conclusion of three furlongs in 38s. Kerona (Mclnally) and Payette (Spinley) were also responsible for a nice effort in recording 38s. Flood Tide (Coleman) ran seven furlongs in lm 33s, Valamito (Jackson) and Te Kawiti (Coker) being on terms at the end of a similar task, which took them lm 33 l-5s. Small Boy (Burgess) and Searcher (Quedley) gave a safe display over four fences, British Sovereign (Burgess) being responsible for a more impressive effort for a similar task. Other gallops were:— Three furlongs: Miss Gay (Mclnally) and Silver Clarion (Parsons), 39 3-5s; Greek March (Smith) and Cambria (Curwen), 38 2— 5s; Princess Yal (Coleman) covered the last three of five in 40s; Manuroa '(Coleman), 40s; Eagle Hawk (Beguley), 43 3-5s; Hogarth (Mclnally), 40s. : ^ : Four furlongs: The Dozer (Gray) and Cillas (Beguley), 55 2-5s; Dinki*Di (Beguley) and Court Favourite (Gray), 54s; Full Hand (Curwen) .and Cornish (Smith), 53 4- 3s; Garnos (Coker), 54 l-5s; Verus (McMinn), 58s; Foxola (Walters), 58 3-5s. •Pive furlongs: Mysito (Smith) and Sunola (Curwen), lm 6 3-5s; Sea Law I (McMinn) and High Sea (Jackson), lm 8s; Silver Quex (Beguley) and Namara (Gray), lm 6s; Heneiti (Mclnally) and Palustre (Parsons), lm 5 2-5s. Six furlongs: Inver (Coleman), lm 19 3-5s. Seven furlongs: Hunting Bee (Mclnally), lm 38 2-5s, the last three in 40 2-5s. Mazir is an unlikely starter in the Poland Cup on Saturday.
