TURF NEWS IN BRIEF

The Marton Handicap winner Gaelic ISong is not an entrant for the New Zealand Cup, nor is either of last week's Geraldine winners, Night Dress or Petersham. Lucullus Boy is taking a lot of racing. After running second to All Bunsby at Marton on Saturday he came out again and won the Farewell Hack Handicap at a useful price; Trekalong, a juvenile member of H. A. Telford's team, was bred.by Mr. A. E. Preston, not by the late Mr. W. Higgins, as stated recently. Halt, who was successful at the Geraldine meeting on Thursday. -had not previously been placed. He is a four-year-old gelding by Nightmarch from the Winkie mare Peho. Princess Ball, whose first foal, a grey colt by Theio, was sold to Australia in January but was killed in an accident, will be represented at the next National saies by a filly by Gynerium. A three-year-old showing a good deal of promise in Sydney is Beauregard, who was bred in Taranaki and is a halfbrother by Beau Pere to Grateful and •the Hawera youngster High Tone. Beauregard, who raced in the colours of Mr. W. J. Smith, is expected to reach good class.
