BIG PRICE AS YEARLING

Tidal Wave's defeat of Pandect in the Rosehill Guineas, definitely raises him to the first line of Derby prospects, as Pandect came right into the limelight by his good third in the Chelmsford Stakes to Beaulivre and High Caste the previous Saturday. The Rosehill Guineas winner has seldom gone on to win the Derby; in fact it has been a hoodoo success for most Derby colts, but the form this year should be'much more reliable, as the two races are run on the same track this time. Tidal Wave was the highest-priced lot at the Trentham saies in 1939, at 1450gns. He was bred by the late Mr. J. S. McLeod, and is one of the first of the stock of the Fairway horse Tiderace. who is out of a Hurry On mare. Tidal Wave's dam is My Own, by Lord Quex from that great brood mare Tressida. He is a half-brother to the New Zealand Cup winner Yours Truly, while My Own herself was a great racing mare, winning the Great Northern Oaks and C.J.C. Metropolitan, while she is also a half-sister to the Derby winner, Runnymede. A week or two ago Tidal Wave attracted attention by just failing by half a head to win the Canterbury Guineas. He finished in the manner of a true stgyer, and the. time, lm 523s, was a record for the race.
