HAWERA

Mrs. A. Anderson, who has been the guest of Mrs. L. des Forges for the past fortnight, returned yesterday to Auckland. Miss Dorothy Anderson is a visitor to Auckland. Miss M. Crabb has returned to Wellington. Mrs. Lewis, who has been the guest of Mrs. R, B. Gosnell, has returned to New Plymouth. Misses H. Bassett Smith, D. Robinson, J. Werry, K. Bassett Smith and D. Sullivan, all of Wanganui, are Ruapehu Ski Club members who will attend the Mt. Egmont Alpine Club's "at home" at Dawson Falls this week-end. . Pipe Band Dance. A programme of modern and old-time dances, interspersed with truly Scottish numbers, was presented at the Rewa Lounge "on Thursday evening, when a large attendance enjoyed the dance organised by the committee of the Hawera Pipe Band. The proceeds will be devoted to the band's funds, and to purchase Christmas parcels for the eight members of the band now serving overseas. Mrs. ^T. C. Hobbs, convener of the women's committee, wore a smart frock of black marquisette, and Mrs. N. Watt, wife of the president, wore a lilac shot taffetas frock and fur cape. Social Evening. A enjoyable social was held on Thursday evening by the Hawera St. John Nursing Division, when dancing, community singing and a concert programme were presented. Mr. Emerson was master of ceremonies and dance music was played by Mr. Quirk, with extras by Miss D. Nairn. Songs were given by Misses M. Fox, A. Whyte, Messrs. Quirk and Rangi, dances by Misses G. Walshe, J. Black, Ursula and Theresa Sheehan, humorous recitals by Miss Cecily Stokes, and guitar solos by Mr. J. Wills, Mrs. Nicholl, divisional superintendent, expressed the hope that the evening would be the forerunner of other happy gatherings.
