REPAIRS TO BRIDGES
STRATFORD COUNTY WORK During the month ended September 13 the Stratford County Council staff attended to, or began preparations to attend to five bridges in the county, reported the engineer, Mr. S. R. Mann, to a meeting of the council yesterday. The understruts of the Perry Road bridge were strengthened, and a load limit notice erected. The Tauwharenikau and the Perry Roads bridges were cleaned and repaired where required. Secondhand deck timber was forwarded and dumped on the Puniwhakau Road for use on the Taurakawa Road bridge, and timber for the Raupuha and Maruarau roads bridges was delivered. Mr. H. J. Kaye, Huinga, wrote requesting that the council metal a small portion at the mouth of the Raupuhu Road, near the Huinga school. The piece was about a chain in length and lay between the entrance to his cowshed track and the Toko metal road. "I am obliged to put in a metal track in order to change over to cheese, and this small piece, generally wet and muddy, would probably hold me up," stated Mr. Kaye. The request was granted after consultation with the riding members for the area. The council decided to support Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., in his objection to legislation concerning the trading hours of shops.
