FIRST IN DOMINION

TEMPERANCE EXAMINEE Three pupils of the Hawera Methodist Sunday school were successful in gaining places at the recent scientific temperance examination held under the auspices of the New Zealand Women's Christian Temperance Union. All three pupils were in the intermediate division (12 years" and under 14). Mervyn Hartmann, with 80 per cent., gained 'first place for New Zealand, receiving a first-class certificale and a gold medal, as well as a shield which is held by the Sunday school to which the premier pupil belongs. Alison Zurch, who was second with 76 per cent., also gained a first-class certificate. Shirley Hatcher was ninth with 61 p'er cent., gaining a second-class certificate.
