WITNESSING TO CHRIST
It was the first duty of every Christian to bear witness to Jesus Christ, stated Canon H. Watson at a Church of England mission address delivered to a large congregation of parishioners at Hawera on Tuesday night. Not only was every Christian called upon to proclaim and live the Gospel, but something even more personal was asked of him, namely, to bear witness to Christ, said Canon Watson. An illustration was provided by a man who had been cured of some serious illness, continued the missioner. Though his restored health was witness of his cure, it would not reveal by whose advice arid care he had been healed, and unless the man made tliat known he could not be said to bear witness to his doctor. So it was with the Christian. It was not suflicient simply to try to life the good life; he must as opportunity afforded tell others that it was through Jesus Christ that he was able to lead such a life. The aim of every true witness must be to extend the Kingdom of Heaven on earth by bringing others into contact with the Master and His teachings. "We must keep oursclves out of the picture," concluded Ihe preacher. "It is lo Christ, not to ourselves, that we are calletl to witness."
