PUBLIC OPINION
VIEWS ON CURRENT TOPICS PRODUCTION OF EGGS (To the Editor.) Sir,— I should like to know if Mr. F. L. Frost, M.P., is right when he says England has changed her mind about wanting eggs. We were asked to produce more eggs and led to believe that all arrangements would be made for sending them away. Country women have gone to some work and expense on that account and if Mr. Frost is right it is only so much more futile effort. It does not seem right or kind to let women, some of them grandmothers and still doing their 80 hours a week to aid farm production, be told to do a lot of extra work for no purpose. We count it a duty and privilege to do anything for England and the men fighting, but it would seem that our Labour Government is not concerned about one war effort. If all farm women should decide to insist on a 40-hour week with double pay for overtime or refuse to do anything, there would be a shortage of production and some other scheme would have to be thought out to meet obligations. Thanking you in anticipation of some enlightenment as to whether we are to produce more eggs or not.— I am GtC" COUNTRY WOMAN. Sept. 18.
