RADIO PROGRAMMES
DISGUSTED. Sept. 19.
(To the Editor.) Sir,— Though I am quite in accordance with the general views expressed at the recent meeting of the Taranaki Education Board regarding the general standard of our radio broadcasting, I feel that they allowed themselves to become sidetracked on the thriller question and missed the main trouble. The Black Moth which figured so largely in the discussion was one of the most popular series that have been broadcast and I for one would like to hear a few more episodes. It was the s' ■ ;* of a modern Robin Hood and the moral tone was good throughout. The board would have kept more to the point had they confined their efforts to rubbish of alleged music and poor songs that are inflicted upon us. From the number of times that it comes over the air the favourite record in every studio appears to be the one dealing with discordant singing in an American prison. If the board had suggested that the Director of Broadcasting should enter every studio, pick out this record and hurl it out of the window on to Ihe pavement, they would really be doing the children and the country a real service. If they then suggested that the Director followed this with all records dealing with lovesick crooning cowboys, negro jazz, blaring trombones and such other rubbish they would soon earn the gratitude and respect of all decentthinking people— I am etc.,
