OKOKE DISTRICT NEWS
The Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato, paid his first visit to Okoke when he baptised four children and confirmed one candidate. His Lordship spoke of the need of persevering prayer, pointing out that as an isolated effort^ a "day of prayer" was of little value, its value, however, being incalculable if it proved the start of a life of prayer. The Rev. John Hickson, at present in charge of the district, hopes to bring the bishop to . Okoke again for further confirmations in February or March of next year. There was a large crowd at the last weekly flag five hundred party in the Okoke hall. Twelve tables were in play and the winners were Mrs. Val Jones, Miss Merle Whittaker and Messrs. J. Grech and S. George. Consolation prizes went to Misses Esther, Whittaker and Joan Colson and Messrs. Jack Collingwood and G. Page. Competitions resulted: 251b of flour given by Mrs. T. O'Riordan, Mr. H. Whittaker jnr; rooster given by 'Mrs. Wilson, Miss J. Colson; four dozen eggs given by Mrs. H. Whittaker were auctioned and bought by Mr. D. Gibson. Personal. Mrs. R. Parr, Rerekapa, is spending a holiday with Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Page. Mr. Walter Fraser is staying with his mother, Mrs. M. E. Fraser. Mr. C. Gilbert, who has been a patient in ■■ the New Plymouth hospital, has returned home. Miss K. Darke has returned from Inglewood.
