GRACIE FIELDS AT HAWERA.
"SHIPYARD SALLY" TO-NIGHT. With a highlight of the film showing the queen of comedy of the Continent singing and dancing to a number called "I'Ve Got the Jitterbugs!" Gracie Fields flashes on to the screen of the Opera House to-night in American swing time. The picture is her latest hilarity hit, "Shipyard Sally," and a hit it is. The story is an engaging one, telling of Gracie's single-handed efforts to restore prosperity to Britain's great shipbuilcling centre at Clydebank. The inimitable hoydenish Gracie sings a number of other tunes in the film. all old favourites. such as "Annie Laurie," "Danny Boy" and others. Starred with her in the 20th Century(Fox release is Sydney Howard, while prominent in the cast is the engaging young Oliver Wakefield, British comedian. who recently won fame on the American radio with his "doubletalk," a vei'bal feat which soon was com- i plimented by a host of local imitatora. |
