WOMEN'S BOWLING

PROPOSED WAITARA CLUB A meeting of women at Waitara last week to discuss the matter of forming a women's bowling club was not so well attended as expected. The president of the club, Mr. G. E. Andrews, explained to those present the conditions on which the small green would be made available to women members during the season. Mesdames G. Bird, P. Zimmerman, H. Billing and L. H. Sampson formed themselves into a committee to enrol more members. Red Cross Meeting. The president, Mr. N. L. Johnston, presided over a good attendance of members at a Waitara Red Cross meeting held recently. Mr. Johnston reported that an offer had been received to have timber for hospital boxes cut in required lengths for making up. The lengths would be left at the depot to be given out to voluntary carpenters. After much discussion on the payment of rent the joint council not having paid it, it was moved that the Red Cross should settle the rent to date. The opening of the rooms on three days a week instead of every day caused some discussion, and it was finally decided that the rooms should be opened on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Cliurch Dance. A Church of England dance for young people was a great success, the hall being filled to capacity. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Lithgow and Mr. R. Spurdle and Miss B. Old and Mr. H. Lowe were winners of a lucky spot fox-trot. Music was supplied by Messrs. K. Morey and T. Wilson. A Waitara Municipal Band euchre party last week was well attended. Prizewinners were Mrs. Limmer, Mrs. C. Brown, Mr. H. Stockman and Mr. J. Zeier. A competition was won by Mr. WillLs. Eleven tables were occupied at a euchre party organised by the committee of the Waitara Athletic. Cycle and Axemen's Club. Mr. R. Yardley supervised the play and prizes were won by Mrs. Wingrove, Mrs. Zimmerman, Mr. R. Yardley and Mr. F. Olsson. A competition was won by Miss D. Andrews.
