POLICE CONFERENCE

"Wellington, Sept. 16. The annual conference of the New Zealand Police Association was recently held in Wellington, delegates representing all districts being present. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. D. J. Cummings, who opened the conference, was welcomed by the president, Mr. J. B. Young, senior detective at Wellington. Mr. Cummings, in the course of an interesting and instructive address, referrea to the loyalty shown by all men in the force during the past difficult year. In connection with onerous duties which have been placed upon the police force arising out of the work, the Commissioner said there had not been a single case where a man had not done his extra duty cheerfully and willingly. The Minister in Charge of the Police Department, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, whose official duties had prevented him from attending at the opening, was present later in the day and addressed the men. He also expressed his appreciation of their loyalty. during the year. Many rernits were discussed as well as matters of general interest in connection with the work of the members. During the conference all delegates waited on the Minister and the Commissioner to discuss topics connected with the association. Mr. T. Kelly, Auckland, acted as chairman at the conference. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: — President, Mr. J. B. Young; vice-pre-sident, Mr. W. R. Murray; management committee, Messrs. W. H. Andrews, A. C. Davis, F. H. Healey, J. W. McHolm, C. S. Rouxel, C. E. Tanner, J. Tither, S. Williams and one further member to be added. The appointment of Mr. J. Meltzer as permanent general seeretary was conflrmed by the conference.
