OTAKEHO RED CROSS
Mrs. F. le Fleming presided at the monthly meeting of the Red Cross Society, there being a good attendance of members. Parcels of scarves and mittens were handed in. Wool for children s clothes is to be purchased with the grant from the Manaia patriotic committee. Excellent marks, it was reported, were obtained by the seven candidates presented for the first-aid examination. Certificates, it was stated, would be presented at a later date. The recond of a series of euchre parties and dances ru'n by the hall committee was well attended. Extras for dancing were given by Messrs. R. Boyd and S. Nuku. A Monte Carlo was won by Mr. L. Flower and partner. Mr. W. Lawson was master of ceremonies. Ten tables were engaged for cards controlled by Messrs. L. Mudford and A. Ross. Winners were Mrs. Tamati, Miss M. Hunia, Mr. G. Clarke and Mr. J. Campbell. A competition was won by Miss M. Boylan, with Mr. L. Adlam second. Mrs. Lobb, Stratford, is spending a short holiday as the guest of her mother, Mrs. K. Morris. Miss Marjorie Webster visited her home at Hawera for the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. H. Grant were visitors to Turakina during the week-end. Mrs. J. E. Young paid a short visit to New Plymouth last week. Miss Elaine Peacock, Hawera, has been the guest of Mrs. E. Putt for the past week. v- - Miss Iris Richards, " Manutahi, was the guest of Miss P. Greenhill at the weekend.
