CONTROL OF BOROUGH
hawera facilities Building permits of a total value of £2720 were issued during August, reported the inspector, Mr. L. Hunt, at a meeting of the Hawera Borough Council last night. Of the eight permits the principal amounts were £1440 for a dwelling and motor shed, £950 for a dwelling and £200 for renovations and alterations. Driving licen/es were issued during August to 84 people, including six new drivers, reported Mr. Hunt. The total number of licenses issued to date was 1108. The sewer work on Waihi Road was completed and the connection with the motor camp at King Edward Park, said the engineer. Mr. F. Marshall-Smith. Fees collected at the abattoirs totalled £90 4s 6d, being £15 12s 9d less than in August, 1939, reported the town clerk, Mr. H. S. Elliott. The total fees for the current financial year were £11 13s 9d less than for th° corresponding period of last year. Eight cars visited the King Edward j Park motor camp during August, reported the custodian, Mr. D. J. Ross. One car stayed for one night, one for two nights and six fOr one week. The total number of visitors was 16. Receipts at the library for August were £39 10s 6d, being £16 8s 5d less than in the same month last year, reported the librariah, Mr. L. R. Caliaway. Statistics, with the corresponding figures for last year in parentheses, were: Subscribers 667 (744), new books 51 (73), withdrawals 18 (18), issues 5782 (5493), average daily issue 214 (203).
