HAWERA

Mrs. D. J. Coodwin will leave to-day for Wellington, where she will be the guest of Mrs. A. Gorton. Mrs. S. Phillips, until recently a sister at the Hawera public hospital, left on Saturday to spend a few weeks at Auckland. ' Mrs. G. Brough and Miss Mollie Brough were visitors to Opunake during the week-end, for the Oliver-Baylis wedding, at which Miss Brough was one of the bridesmaids. Mrs. W. Greig, Miss Lynette Greig and Mrs. E. Preece left during the week-end for Auckland, where they will live. Mrs. G. C. Harris returned during the week-end after spending several weeks at Auckland. Mrs. W. A. Turnbull will leave to-day for her new home at New Plymouth.

Garden Party. One of the foremost displays of bulbs in the district was open on Saturday afternoon to croquet club members and their friends when Mrs. F . A. Quin entertained at a garden party at her South Road residence in aid of club funds. There was a fine array of show blooms. Mrs. Quin wore a model frock of black Jersey sheer, with inset embroidery in oriental tones, and she was assisted by other members of the club and by Miss Joan Quin. Competition winners were Mrs. W. A. Spragg, Mrs. J. D. McKay, and Mrs. J. J. Goodwin. Afternoon tea was served indoors, and later Miss Joan Quin and Miss Jean Sargent played piano duets, and Miss Sargent sang. Among tliose present were Mrs. J. Syme, president, Mrs. F. Livingstone, patron, Mesdames F. Guy, W. Whitton, C. F. Hollis, W. A. Spragg, E. Brown, Tuck, W. Oldfield, Whittington, F. H. Bernard, O. Cox, Hall, R. Crocker, J. H. Horton. M. Comerford, F. Chadwick, J. D. McKay, A. Findlay, J. B. Sawers, J. W. J. Harding, R. S. Haybittle, A. Jones, W. F. Buist, J. J. Goodwin, Allsop. J. C. Findlater, M. Moore, Rowland, J. Foy, R. Campbell. R. W. Russell, A. E. Stevens, Revell, Misses L. Hay-MacKenzie, Hay Mackenzie (Wellington), A. Cameron, M. Franklin, Junne Goodwin, K. Cullinan, S. Allsop and J. Sargent.
