COMMUNITY EFFORT

BOYS PLANT POTATOES Community efTort is marking Stratford's programme of greater production instigated under the Government s general scheme. About two acres of the cainp site at King Edward Park have been ploughed and yesterday 20 boys, pupils of the Stratford Technical High School, planted one ton of seed potatoes in about an acre of the area. The balance of the section will be planted in parsnips and carrots. Relishing the prospect of a day in the open air as compared with a few hours in the class-room, the boys worked with zest 'under the guidance of a master, Mr. H. C. Johnson. The ton of seed potatoes, though of an impressive aspect while above the ground in sacks, finally disappeared during the afternoon. What comprised the end of a normal school day saw all the potatoes beneath the ground, and the boys in their energetic way were looking round for fresh seed to conquer. It is believed that the ncxt phase of the "plant and produce" campaign will be the ploughing of a three-acre horse paddock off Swansea Road near the river. This area will be planted in swedes.
