CURBING TRAITORS
SOUTH AFRICAN MEASURES
Rec. 5.5 p.m. Capetown, Sept. 12. The Minister cf the Interior, Mr. H. Lawrence, endorsing General Smut s waming that the Government intended to use full powers to curb subversive activities, detailed to-day the actions of the Ossewabrandwag organisation, formed as an Afrikaans cultural society. Subversive clements appointed guards for public utility buildings with badges representing them to be soldiers. Attempts were made to tamper with the loyalty of the police, railway employees and soldiers and to obtain military information and arms for Ossewabrandwag organistaions. "Wild men" were obviously getting out of hand and General Smuts had determined to maintain internal security, Mr, Laurence added.
