GOVERNMENT AT VICHY

SWEEPING DEMANDS

Rec. 11 p.m. London, Sept. 13. Unconfirmed reports from the United States say that the Vichy Government has rejected new, sweeping demands from Germany and Italy. Germany, it is stated, demanded the surrender of 50 per cent.. of the livestock of unoccupied France and Italy the demobilisation of all French troops in North Africa. The future of the Vichy Government and unoccupied France is vitally affected.

It is possible that the Germans and Italians may occupy the greater part of France or even the whole of it. General Weygand has postponed his visit to North Africa, where he was going to co-ordinate the French armed forces. Reports from Rabat (Morocco) state that many French officers have been arrested for revolting against the Petain Government and conducting propaganda on behiilf of General De Gaulle. The Bank ot France has agreed to place 50,000,000,000 francs at the disposal of the Government to pay for the upkeep of German troops in occupied France.
