Described by speakers as "particularly outstanding • services," Mr. A. Faine's work as secretary of the Taranaki Subcentre of the West Coast (North Island) Centre of the New Zealand AmateurAthletic Association during the past two and a half years was eulogised at the annual meeting at Stratford, when his resignation was received. Tribute to the efficiency of Mr. Faine was paid by Messrs. A. G. Whiting, Eltham, president, L. J. Furrie, a vice-president, H. A. Heslop, treasurer, and other speakers. Mr. Faine declined the usual honorarium and it was decided to make him a presentation and to record appreciation of his services. Mr. Faine is leaving Stratford for military training. The Mayor, Mr. R. Lewis, at the monthly meeting of the Eltham patriotic committee took the opportunity of presenting to Sergt.-Gunner R. Blackstock, R.N.Z.A.F., with a fountain pen from the citifeens of Eltham. Mr. Lewis said he knew Sergt. Blackstock well. and it was typical of him to choose a hazardous position. Wishes for a speedy and safe return to Lieut.-Col. F. S. Varnham and Dr. G. H. Thomson, executive members until their departure on service overseas, were extended at the annual meeting of the Taranaki sub-centre of the West Coast (North Island) Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association at Stratford. Sympathy with the chairman, Mr. J. McAllister, in the death of his mother was expressed at a meeting of the Stratford Technical High School , Board last night. The Stratford Technical High School Board elections were completed in August, with the following results, reported the principal, Mr. A. H. R. Amess, to a meeting of the board last night: Mr. A. Ferguson, returned to represent school committees; Mr. H. W. Douglas, employers; Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., Taranaki Education Board; Mr. H. Taylor, Eltham, local bodies.
