A considerable drop in sterling exchange and a noticeable decrease in bank notes are features of the Reserve Bank staement for the week ending September 9. Guarding Stud Stock. Proposals to mvite English stud sheep breeders to send their best stock to New Zealand for safe keeping during the war have been framed by the Canterbury A. and P. Association. Patriotic Funds. Vast sums of money are not being purposelessly amassed by the National Patriotic Fund Board, and there are numerous calls made upon the funds, according to the Governor-General. Military Pay From Tuesday. Military pay for Expeditionary Force recruits who have not been called up for mobilisation owing to the measles epidemic and who are on that account without employment will be granted from next Tuesday. Watersiders Criticised. A statement in which he set out to prove what he termed "inconsistency of the highest order," in the mover's opinion was made by the chairman of the Waterfront Control Commission to a motion decrying the contract system at a stop work meeting of Wellington watersiders.
