PRODUCTION IN NORTH
SPRING FEED PLENTIFUL Kaitaia, Sept. 10. • Plocks and herds are In excellent condition throughout the Mangonui County. where, after an exceptionally mild winter, there is already a good showing of spring feed. In the Kaitaia district the dairying season is almost in full swing. Southward, in the Victoria Valley, there is similar progress, and an excellent spring is indicated. Among sheep flocks, lambing is well advanced and stock are strong and in excellent condition. Although some hay is still being fed out, many farmers say it is scarcely necessary, and contemplate storing a portion for emergency against drought or severe weather. Farmers are making a general drive to increase production, and herd-testing is' reported to be greatly on the increase. Large numbers of heifer calves which might ordinarily have been sent to the works are being redistributed among those who require extra young stock. On the large cattle runs, the annual spring muster is taking place, several droves of Herefords having already been brought ln from the coastal areas for fattening. Musterers and drovers are at work on ' the Te Paki station mustering for the annual draft the semi-wild cattle from the 53,000 acres of steep and sandy country near the Cape. These cattle are to be driven over 100 miles to Kaitaia for the special annual sale.
