CHILDREN ON BUSES
SIMPLE SAFETY RULES The danger that children alighting from school buses are subjected to is to be referred to the Director of Education by the Commissioner of Transport, Mr. G. L. Laurenson, with a view to ascertaining what may be required to control child passengers. Advice to this effect was reeeived by the Patea County Council yesterday in reply to its inquiries. "The rule to be observed is as given in respect of tram passengers," wrote Mr. Laurenson. "The rule is 'when alighting from a tram make for the nearest footpath. Do not alight and cross in front of or behind a tram unless you are sure that it is safe to do so. "Probably most children know what they should do— the above matter being one of those covered by instruction given from time to time by teachers, who have been supplied with safety material— but I am asking the Director of Education if he will have inquiries made with a view to seeing what action may be required in regard to the control of child passengers in school conveyances in your county," said Mr. Laurensori.
