LIKELY THREE-YEAR-OLD

An interesting acceptor for the Trial Plate on the first day of the Avondale meeting on Saturday is the three-year-old Cheddington. He did little racing last season, but at Ellerslie on Boxing Ray he filled the bill of runner-up in the Great Northern Foal Stakes behind Lou Rosa. Among those that finished behind him were Cillas, Grandora, Queen City, Phaleron and Beau Leon, so that there was merit in Cheddington's effort. If he has trained on satisfactorily he looks likely to play a prominent pUrt in Saturday's race. Cheddington is by Phaleron Bay out of Silver Rule, who was out of that fine mare Silver Link.
