Ashburton Acceptances. Acceptances for the Ashburton race meeting on Saturday have closed. Coronach Arrives. Coronach, English Derby winner, has arrived at Maxwell in splendid order after his long journey, Home Guard Enrolmejit. Enrolment papers for the Home Guard contain questions designed to ascertain what service members are best qualified to perform. Diverse Gifts for Soldiers. About 100 different'classes of goods are being sent to New Zealand soldiers abroad, the gifts ranging from pen nibs to feature' talking films. Isolated Soldiers Cheerful. Soldiers isolated in hospital on account of the recent epidemic of measles are stated on good authority to be comfortable, well looked after and cheerful. Trespassers Warned. Men who ventured into forbidden waters in small craft at Wellington recently were warned with bursts fired in their vicinity from forts at the harbour mouth. Waterfront Control Scheme. The new waterfront control scheme will come into operation at all New Zealand ports, including New Plymouth, within a few weeks. according to the chairman of the Waterfront Control Commission. Scattered Showers Prcdicted. There will be an improvement in the weather from the south, though scattered showers will still be encountered in western districts, according to the official forecast. There is a secondary depression near Taranaki. No Importation of Gas Masks. Licenses to import about 500 gas respirators, anti-gas clothing and spare materials for an emergency precautions scheme, sought by the Auckland City Council, have been refused an Auckland importer by the Customs Department.
